This guide explains how to plan robot dogs for malls and family events in the UAE: which formats work, how to keep children safe, what the floor and space need, how to manage crowds, and when to book around the country's peak family seasons.
Why choose robot dogs for a mall or family event?
Robot dogs are quadruped robots that dance, perform tricks and move in formations. At about 15 kg and 40 cm tall, they are low, light and quick to set up, which suits busy atriums, family days and children. They perform short routines with an operator in control and pose for supervised photos between shows.
Robot Show UAE is a Dubai-based operator that plans, rehearses and runs robot appearances with its own operators, including robot dogs for families, malls and brand activations. It keeps a clear zone, stays with the robots throughout, and replies to every brief with a proposal within 24 hours.
What a robot dog actually is
The quadrupeds used at events belong to the same class as Unitree's Go2. Unitree lists the Go2 at about 15 kg, 70 × 31 × 40 cm when standing, with about 1–2 hours of battery on the Air, Pro and X versions (Unitree Go2).
Two figures matter for planning. First, height: at 40 cm the robot is at knee height, which in our editorial view makes it far less intimidating to small children than a humanoid. Second, speed: Unitree lists top speeds of 2.5 m/s (Air), 3.5 m/s (Pro) and 3.7 m/s (X). In a crowd, the operator keeps the speed low and the robot inside its zone.
Robot dogs vs humanoids for family audiences
| Robot dogs | Compact humanoid (G1 class) | |
|---|---|---|
| Height | about 40 cm standing | about 1.32 m |
| Weight | about 15 kg | about 35 kg |
| Set-up | fast, suits most indoor floors | needs a flat, firm performance zone |
| Close photos with young children | yes, supervised | only supervised, performs at a distance |
| Best role | formations, tricks, photo round | dance lead, stage moment |
Figures from Unitree's official Go2 and G1 pages. For many family events, the answer is both: robot dogs as the main act, with a compact humanoid as the headline moment (choosing the mix).
Formats that work in malls and at family events
Our editorial guidance on the formats that suit these audiences:
- Scheduled atrium shows. Short routines at announced times, for example on the hour through the afternoon. Families plan around them and come back.
- Formation shows. Several robot dogs moving in sync, which reads well from upper mall levels looking down into an atrium.
- Trick and command sessions. Children "ask" the dog to sit, wave or dance, and the operator executes the command.
- Photo round. One child or family at a time, operator beside the robot, parents take the photos.
- Brand reveal. A robot dog trots out with a product, a gift card or a sign on cue, a format covered under brand activations.
- Family day at a school, compound or company. A compact programme of show, commands and photos inside a marked zone.
Safety with children: the rules to insist on
Robot dogs are lighter than humanoids, but they are still machines that move quickly. The rules below are the ones Robot Show UAE applies at every family event; use them as a checklist with any provider.
- A fenced or clearly marked zone during every routine. Children watch from outside it. → No one steps into a moving formation. → Barriers or a floor marking are enough indoors.
- An operator with the robots at all times. The operator can stop them at once. → A problem is handled in seconds. → A robot left unattended in a mall atrium is not acceptable.
- Contact only in supervised photo moments. One child or family at a time, operator beside the robot. → Calm, not crowding. → This is when most children want to touch the robot.
- Someone else watches the crowd. Mall security, the activation team or a host keeps the zone edge clear. → The operator watches the robots, not the queue. → Agree who does this before the day.
- Rest out of reach. Between blocks the robots rest and charge somewhere children cannot reach. → No climbing on parked robots. → Needs one power socket.
If footage of children will be used in marketing, get parents' consent first. The UAE's Personal Data Protection Law "prohibits the processing of personal data without the consent of its owner", with limited exceptions (u.ae).
Floor, space and crowd flow
Robot dogs are suitable for most indoor floors: mall tiles, stages, event flooring and short carpet. Our venue requirements list what every show needs; for malls, add these points:
- Line of sight. Atriums with upper levels give a natural "stadium" for formation shows.
- Queue space. Plan where the photo queue forms so it does not block shopfronts or escalators.
- Sound. A mall PA line or your own speaker; the operator brings the track.
- Mall rules. Malls set their own rules for activations, set-up hours and insurance. Share them with your provider early.
- Outdoors. Robot dogs cope with more surfaces than humanoids, but heat is the limit. MOHRE bans outdoor work in direct sun from 12:30 to 15:00 between 15 June and 15 September (MOHRE); plan outdoor summer shows for the evening.
Public events outside a mall's own programme may need a permit. In Abu Dhabi, events are licensed through the Department of Culture and Tourism's events licensing system; in Dubai, through the Department of Economy and Tourism. Your mall or event agency will usually know the route.
Peak family seasons to plan around
Holidays and festivals are when families have time for a day at the mall. Dates to plan around:
| Season | When | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai Summer Surprises 2026 | 2 July – 30 August 2026 | What's On, citing Visit Dubai |
| Eid Al Fitr | 1–3 Shawwal, by moon sighting | u.ae public holidays |
| Eid Al Adha | 10–12 Dhu Al Hijjah, by moon sighting | u.ae public holidays |
| UAE National Day | 2–3 December | u.ae public holidays |
Book the robots when you book the mall slot. Islamic holidays move with the moon sighting, so confirm dates as they are announced. For National Day ideas, see our National Day robot show guide.
How to plan a robot dog activation: step by step
- Set the goal. Footfall to a zone, dwell time, social content, or a product moment. → The format follows the goal. → A photo round builds content; scheduled shows build footfall.
- Send the brief. Mall or venue, dates, hours, expected audience and ages. → A proposal within 24 hours. → Peak seasons book early.
- Agree the schedule. Show times, photo rounds and rest blocks. → Robots stay charged for the whole day. → Battery life is about 1–2 hours per charge on most Go2 versions.
- Plan the zone and the queue. Mark the performance zone and photo queue on the floor plan. → Crowds flow without blocking shops. → Agree who guards the zone edge.
- Brand it. Costume, colours, your music, a reveal. → Every visitor photo carries your brand. → Agreed during show design.
- Rehearse on site. The crew sets up before the mall opens or before your slot. → The routine is tested on the real floor. → Robots do not improvise.
- Review and adjust daily. Move show times to when the atrium is busiest. → Better results through a multi-day activation. → Keep the same crew for continuity.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Robots roaming the mall. Keep them in a zone with an operator; roaming robots in a crowd are a risk, not a feature.
- No queue plan. The photo round is the most popular part and the easiest to lose control of.
- One long show. Short, scheduled blocks keep crowds returning and batteries alive.
- Outdoor summer noon. Heat and direct sun are hard on robots and on families.
- Forgetting consent. Ask before using children's images in marketing.
What does a robot dog show cost?
Most UAE providers do not publish prices for robot dogs. Published market rates in our 2026 price guide cover humanoids, about AED 5,000–10,000 a day with an operator in the UAE; these are other companies' advertised rates, not ours. Robot dogs are a different price point; the factors that shape any quote are on our pricing page.
FAQ
Are robot dogs safe around children in a mall?
Yes, with the right rules: a fenced or marked zone during routines, an operator with the robots at all times, and contact only in supervised photo moments, one child at a time. At about 15 kg and knee height, robot dogs are the format we recommend for the youngest guests.
How long can robot dogs perform at a mall?
Unitree lists about 1–2 hours per charge for the Go2 Air, Pro and X, depending on use. A mall day is built from short shows and photo rounds with charging breaks between them.
Can robot dogs perform outdoors in the UAE?
Yes, on flat surfaces and in suitable conditions. They cope with more surfaces than humanoids, but summer daytime heat is hard on robots and people, so plan outdoor shows for the evening or in shade.
Can we brand the robot dogs for our activation?
Yes. Costumes, colours, your music and a scripted reveal are agreed during show design, so the robot dogs appear in every visitor photo with your brand.
Can robot dogs and a humanoid perform together?
Yes. A common family format uses robot dogs as the main act, with a compact humanoid as the headline moment, performing at a distance from the audience.
Give families a reason to stop
In a mall with millions of visitors, attention goes to what families can watch, film and join. Robot dogs deliver all three, when the zone, the schedule and the photo round are planned.
