What does a humanoid robot do at a wedding?
At a wedding a humanoid robot usually does one of three things: welcomes guests at the entrance, performs one short choreographed routine of up to about three minutes at a chosen moment, or hosts a photo corner. It works to a rehearsed script with an operator beside it; it does not improvise or hold free conversations.

Why wedding robots need more planning than corporate ones
A wedding has one timeline and no second take. The robot's slot sits between the entrance, speeches, dinner service and the band, so a routine that starts four minutes late pushes everything else.
Two limits shape the plan. First, stamina: a continuous dance routine runs up to about three minutes, so longer appearances are built from short blocks (why routines are about 3 minutes). Second, battery: Unitree lists about 2 hours per charge for its G1 compact humanoid and about 3 hours for its H2 full-height humanoid (Unitree G1, Unitree H2), and heavy movement shortens that.
Etiquette at UAE weddings
Weddings in the UAE bring together families with very different expectations, and a robot carries cameras. Three points deserve attention before booking:
- Separate celebrations. At Emirati weddings, "the male wedding celebration... is always separate from the women's", according to The National's guide to Emirati weddings.
- Photography rules. The same guide notes that "typically, no photography is allowed at the women's celebration". Anyone bringing equipment into that room, including a robot, must follow the host family's rules.
- Robots have cameras. Unitree lists a depth camera and 3D LiDAR on the G1 and a binocular camera on the H2 (G1, H2). These are used for movement, but the family should know they exist, and the operator should confirm that no footage is recorded or kept.
Separately, the UAE's Personal Data Protection Law "prohibits the processing of personal data without the consent of its owner", with limited exceptions (u.ae). If the operator wants to use wedding footage in its own marketing, it should ask in writing first.

How to plan a wedding robot: step by step
- Pick the moment first. Decide whether the robot welcomes, performs, reveals or hosts photos. → The operator can recommend the robot. → A clear moment keeps the robot from competing with the couple.
- Send the brief. Date, venue, number of guests, the time of the moment and any costume or colour theme. → A proposal within 24 hours. → Peak wedding dates book up early.

- Confirm the floor and zone. Send a floor plan or a photo of the ballroom or garden. → Stage, parquet, tiles or event flooring are fine; thick carpet, sand and slopes are not (venue requirements). → A humanoid that cannot keep its footing cannot dance.

Cultural touches, handled with care
Many couples ask for a nod to Emirati heritage. Al-Ayyala, inscribed by UNESCO in 2014, "is performed during weddings and other festive occasions" in the UAE and Oman (UNESCO). A robot routine can be inspired by such traditions, but it should never parody them. If heritage elements matter to the family, agree the routine and costume with them before rehearsal.
Outdoor and beach weddings
Garden and beach venues are exactly where robots struggle most. Sand is unsuitable for a dancing humanoid, and daytime heat is hard on robots and people.
If the ceremony is outside, move the robot's moment to a terrace, a stage or event flooring, and schedule it for the evening. The National Center of Meteorology's figures reported by Khaleej Times put December mean daytime highs at 21.7–27.4°C, which is why the cooler months suit outdoor evenings best. Humidity and dew on outdoor floors should also be checked on the day.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Booking the robot for "the whole night". Plan blocks: arrival, one performance, photo corner.
- Surprising the family. A robot walking into a room with different photography rules is a real risk; agree the rooms in advance.
- Heavy props. Robot arms are rated in kilograms, not in cake tiers.
- Skipping the rehearsal. A floor the robot has not walked is an unknown.
